5 WAYS TO HAVE THE BEST SUMMER WITH YOUR KIDS

We understand Summer can be a difficult time adjusting to new routines as everyone comes home from school. We are here to help! We have gathered a few ways for you to create a memorable summer for you and your children.

1.DON'T BE THE EXPERT: Do something your child is better at than you and ask them to teach you. We don’t need to give you examples, your child can tell you those!

2. BEGINNERS LUCK: Find an activity that neither of you have done before and enjoy learning and maybe struggling through something together. New experiences create bonds that last, as well as some laughs! Here are some examples:

  • Pottery, painting, or clay creations

  • Kayaking, fishing, or rock wall climbing

  • Improv or singing the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

3. LOOSEN UP: Ask them how they like to veg out and then create a time for them and their friends to relax. You can even invite other parents to join in on the slower pace of play. Here are some examples:

  • Listening to music or watching a TV show of their choosing.

  • Playing video games they enjoy.

  • Take daily walks or bike-rides and ask them questions about their life.

  • Take them for a cup of coffee or scoop of ice cream at their favorite local spot.

4. LISTEN AND LEARN: Find something that you both can enjoy and create an afternoon for mutual play. Here are some examples:

  • Watercoloring or sketching

5. SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION: Make it fun! You can memorize scripture and whomever memorizes the most can put a pie in the others face. Here are some great verses to get you started:

  • “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge…” -Psalm 18:2

  • “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worth of praise, let you mind dwell on these things.” -Philippians 4:8

  • “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” -Romans 12:2

  • “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7
